The First Days of Spring

Finally! My favourite season has arrived even to my town. I got so excited about not wearing coats and boots anymore that I caught a cold and now I have to stay home and look at it just out of my window. It's still a pleasure though.
My "English folk shoes" were waiting in the closet all winter for the pavement to get dry. Now at last, I can wear them and walk on the fresh new grass, listen to the birds and maybe even get some ice cream eventually.
First flowers of the season right next to my house

Spring reminds me of the film The First Days of Spring made by Charlie Fink, the lead singer of the English indie folk band Noah and the Whale. The film is a 47-minute-long music video. It's featuring all songs of the album. Some scenes are just incredible.

Sehnsucht

I didn't know much about Sehnsucht, actually I had no idea something like that existed. But when I got to read some more about it I found it very interesting. What made it even cooler was that C.S.Lewis(one of my favourite writers) himself was interested in it and obviously he focused on this strange and fascinating matter in several of his books.

It is a German noun translated as "longing", "yearning" and "craving", or "intensely missing". Sehnsucht took on a particular significance in the work of author C. S. Lewis. Lewis described Sehnsucht as the "inconsolable longing" in the human heart for "we know not what" The key ingredient of the experience, as Lewis treats it, is that this longing—never fulfilled—is itself sweeter than the fulfillment of any other human desire.
That unnameable something, desire for which pierces us like a rapier at the smell of bonfire, the sound of wild ducks flying overhead, the title of The Well at the World's End, the opening lines of "Kubla Khan", the morning cobwebs in late summer, or the noise of falling waves.

...All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear. But if it should really become manifest—if there ever came an echo that did not die away but swelled into the sound itself—you would know it. Beyond all possibility of doubt you would say 'Here at last is the thing I was made for.' We cannot tell each other about it. It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want . . . which we shall still desire on our deathbeds . . . Your place in heaven will seem to be made for you and you alone, because you were made for it—made for it stitch by stitch as a glove is made for a hand.

Submarine

I can't wait for this movie to come out...
(Featuring original songs by Alex Turner:))
I really like the original trailer. It made me want to see the movie. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CAntLzsQ74&feature=BF&list=FLmL0j9yMWyf4&index=3

"Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them."

The Little Prince will always be one of my most favourite books ever. I think it's so true.
In the book it said: "Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing it. After that they are not able to move, and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion."
I pondered deeply, then, over the adventures of the jungle. And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing. My Drawing Number One. It looked like this:
I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered:"Frighten? Why should any one be frightened by a hat?"
My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I made another drawing: I drew the inside of the boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. My Drawing Number Two looked like this:
The grown-ups' response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number One and my Drawing Number Two. Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

Hopelessly English

She is just so lovely. Her voice brings joy to my ears anytime I hear her either talking or singing. (My favourite song is Blackberry stone) I wish to see Laura Marling live one day. I would have loved to be at one of the gigs she played with Mumford & Sons. I found this short film about her and have been going back to watch it again ever since then. I love good films and would enjoy making one too but it always seemed too complicated to me. However, after I had watched this video, I decided to shoot a documentary film about someone (don't know who that person could be yet and documentary because it shows real things, it's not fake, nobody's pretending). So I might be waiting to meet somebody inspiring but in my opinion, there is not a person that woudln't have something that the camera would find interesting to focus on nor there are two people that could have the same film made about them. It's exciting. We are all different and we all have stories to tell. I would love to capture them all.
