photo of the day

This is my favourite picture of the day. I just love it. It's Cate Blanchett but I really do wish it was me in the lovely photo:) I love riding a bike down the slope street when it gets faster on its own and I can just put my feet in the air and feel the wind in my hair and on my face....although it lasts barely a minute it is worth the slow long way back up.

It was taken by Annie Leibowitz, a huge inspiration of mine.
This is something she said about photography and it is exactly how I feel about it. I don't know I've never really cared about the camera. I still don't understand all of the settings and the theory but what I love about taking pictures is the view, the things I see and somehow need to capture.

“We were taught that the most important thing a young photographer can do  is learn how to see.  It wasn’t about the equipment we were using.  I don’t remember being taught any technique.   A camera was only a box that recorded an image.”

Youth - Lagoon

I was listening to this song for the first time and it seemed the time was flowing slower. So beautiful. The music along with the video brought me a strange feeling that is hard for me to describe. I think the name Youth Lagoon does say it best.

It felt even more special when a few days later, I randomly picked up a little old red book from my dad's messy shelf and read the title "Joseph Conrad:
                Youth - Lagoon"

They probably have nothing in common but it still added on the remarkableness. I've started exploring the pages of this little special book and found pieces of beauty so far. I love that the publishing company (printed in 1959) is called The Publishing House of Beautiful Literature.

Automne malade

Les feuilles
Qu'on foule
Un train
Qui roule
La vie
S'écoule

Hello Hello! I got into the autumn mood so I thought I'd try to write it out and see what I can do.

I keep singing this song in my head...could make good background for reading :)

First, here is a little update "de moi" Life has been busy recently. And I cannot see it getting lighter anytime soon. What I try to do is seek balance and do not waste time(that can really be a hard one sometimes). But I must say that along with all the hard work, duties, the heavy load of the senior year full of choices that sometimes seems too heavy and so many things on my mind I keep trying not to forget...there is always a lot of light.. It is just that I sometimes get stuck so deep in all the "to do things" that I almost forget to look around. But when I finally do, I can see so much love, beauty and little precious things all around my life that the heavy seems not so heavy anymore. It is hard. But is also beautiful.
Autumnal sunshine, red leaves, apples and hot cocoa can always bring a little spark of joy.

Apples from my friend's garden...

I made my first apple crumble of the season this week. It was a spontaneous decision(I'm a fan of those). It did smell like autumn.

My friend once showed me this poem by Apollinaire. "Automne malade." (I'm not putting here the original French version although I think poem translating is truly a weird thing. Anyway, I still have 7 more months till I'm supposed be a professional French speaker...that is quite enough hopefully) I like the last six verses best because they talk about life and how fast it goes. It has seemed even faster lately. The autumn is almost over already and I find myself borrowing my dad's sweaters to keep me warm.

Autumn ill and adored

You die when the hurricane blows in the roseries
When it has snowed
In the orchard trees

Poor autumn
Dead in whiteness and riches
Of snow and ripe fruits
Deep in the sky
The sparrow hawks cry
Over the sprites with green hair the dwarfs
Who’ve never been loved

In the far tree-lines
the stags are groaning

And how I love O season how I love your rumbling
The falling fruits that no one gathers
The wind the forest that are tumbling
All their tears in autumn leaf by leaf
                              The leaves
                              You press
                              A crowd
                              That flows
                              The life
                              That goes

MGMT inspired

We've been talking about doing an MGMT inspired photo shoot for a long long time. They're one of our favourite bands but also it's their special indie-psycho-hippie-indian style that we find so marvelous. Finally we made it happen. We had a fun time trying to get closer to the mgmt nature. I must say, at last, running barefoot with feathers and Andrew VanWyngarden's style bandana on, with the trees making sounds and leaves falling, I actually did feel a little hippie.
You can listen some of their music as you go through the pictures here

I will quote them:
"Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute."

They were involved in a yogabbagabba show for "Art is everywhere" and this is the hilarious video. It is so true about art, by the way
